Ayn Dawkah

Coming in 2027

Ayn Dawkah
the Visitor Centre and Manufacture of Wadi Dawkah

Seen from above, it almost looks like an eye, a watchful sentinel protecting the sanctuary of frankincense trees.

It is the “EYE OF DAWKAH” - Ayn Dawkah

Nestled above the UNESCO Heritage Site, Ayn Dawkah overlooks the valley of frankincense trees. It is deeply rooted in its surroundings, resonating with the essence of its environment, and serves as a culminating moment in the Wadi Dawkah experience.

AN ARCHITECTURAL LANDMARK

The circular building of Ayn Dawkah is conceived as a continuation of its environment, as if it were a vast, polished rock emerging from the land. Its rammed earth, dry stone, and burnished desert tones harmonise with the mountain horizon. Circularity governs everything: sightlines, movement, time. Designed by Giò Forma Studio (Milan) and F&M Middle East, its shapes, colours, and textures draw deeply from the language of the Dhofari landscape.

With its strong and meaningful geometry, Ayn Dawkah serves as a pivotal landmark. A minimalistic ring respectfully encloses a central frankincense garden, symbolising circularity and sustainability.

A symbol of optimism, of legacy, of scent, and of Oman. The Manufacture was conceived as a temple of craft, revealing the transformation of raw materials into beauty.

WHERE THE RESIN BECOMES ESSENTIAL OIL

At the heart of the visit is the Manufacture, where frankincense resin will be distilled into essential oil - the precious ingredient used in perfumery. With these extraction facilities installed behind glass windows, visitors will be able to witness the entire production process - from drying and sorting to weighing, and finally distilling the resin into oil.

WHERE FRANKINCENSE BRIDGES PAST AND PRESENT

The Visitor Centre will offer an immersive journey highlighting one of the first perfumes known in history. The visitors will discover the legends surrounding this precious ingredient over the centuries, learn about its global reach and its multiple uses in history including medicine, rituals, diplomatic gifts, trade and, of course, perfumery.

We have sought to thoughtfully, tastefully, and passionately create a signature destination that pays homage to Wadi Dawkah's beauty and those that have called it home for centuries.
